If your Waves Update Plan expires it’s more cost effective to WUP multiple plugins than individual ones, so worth waiting for them all to expire.

USB authorisation can also be a little safer, as if your HD fails or you re-format it, you'll lose any authorisations authorised to that system drive. If you install your main authorisation on a USB thumb drive you can however run Waves plugins on multiple computers (irrespective of your WUP being active or not). If you’re WUP expires, you will still retain your main authorisation.

WUP allows you to have two authorisations per plugin.

As long as your Waves plugins are installed & authorised, they’ll run even if your WUP expires.

It’s not completely necessary to have your WUP active in order to run Waves plugins.

I would’t try to change their classification - even if it were possible. It also shows as a Midi controlled effect, (some Waves plugins do) despite being available on an audio insert or Bus insert. the only caveat being I’m on Big Sur 11.6.7 (Intel) & Waves V13, (as opposed to V14).
